District committee is responsible for overseeing and supporting Scouting activities within a specific geographic district, primarily focusing on growing membership, developing programs, providing training for adult volunteers, and ensuring all units within the district are functioning effectively and delivering a quality Scouting experience to youth members; essentially acting as a bridge between the council and individual Scouting units within the district.

Key functions of a BSA district committee include:

  • Membership development:

Recruiting new units and members by working with community organizations to establish new Scouting units, and supporting existing units in retaining members.

  • Program support:

Assisting units in planning and executing quality Scouting activities like camps, special events, and community service projects.

  • Leader training:

Providing training and support to adult volunteers within the district to enhance their leadership skills.

  • Youth advancement:

Promoting youth advancement through recognition programs and ensuring Scouts are progressing through the Scouting program.

  • Communication and coordination:

Facilitating communication between the council, district units, and community leaders.

  • Quality assurance:

Monitoring the quality of Scouting programs within the district and identifying areas for improvement.
