Snake River District Klondike Derby

Klondike Derby for the Snake River District.

WHAT IS A Klondike Derby?? (Well it ain’t a Pinewood Derby) Many years ago, men raced by means of dogs and sleds across the frozen wastes of Canada in search of GOLD! Snake River District units have capitalized on this theme and for years Scouts in the Snake River area have conducted our own Klondike Derby as a winter survival activity for our units.

Each Klondike Derby Team (patrols from each Troop) is a separate expedition, the Team follows a course outlined on a map or route given to the Team Leader / Patrol Leader (leadership may rotate for each station). Each team leader is given instructions that will lead them on a fun and adventure filled day of skills and tasks. Each Team starts and finishes these tasks on their own, showing to themselves and their adult leader(s) that they have the skills needed to survive on their own in the harsh environment of winter.
